The number of newly established foreign-funded enterprises in China from January to May increased by 10.4% compared to the same period last year.

According to data released by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (Province) on the 20th, the number of newly established foreign-funded enterprises nationwide in the first five months of this year increased by 10.4% year-on-year to 24,018 companies, while the actual foreign investment amount decreased by 13.2% to 358.19 billion yuan (1 yuan is approximately 20.4 yen).

By industry, the foreign investment amount in the manufacturing sector was 91.52 billion yuan, while the service sector accounted for 259.64 billion yuan. The high-tech industry reached 109.04 billion yuan, with the e-commerce service sector growing by 146%, aerospace manufacturing by 74.9%, chemical manufacturing by 59.2%, and medical device manufacturing by 20%.

Looking at the investment sources by country/region, investment from the ASEAN region to China increased by 20.5%, Japan by 70.2%, the UK by 60.9%, South Korea by 10.3%, and Germany by 7.1% (including investment data via free trade ports). (Edited by KS)
